Professor of Design, ELISAVA
Julia Benini is a Professor of Design and Co-Director of the Executive Program in Creative Process at ELISAVA, the Barcelona School of Design and Engineering. Prior to joining ELISAVA, Julia served as a Design Director at IDEO.org, where she led the Design Research discipline and spread her passion for ethics, cross-cultural ethnography, and impact at scale.
At IDEO.org, Julia worked with design teams and international development organizations on projects that empowered women and girls by increasing access to reproductive health services, and on mobile financial services for the unbanked. She has designed for social innovation in Kenya, Ethiopia, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Uganda, Tanzania, Guatemala, Brazil, and Bangladesh.
Julia has also helped IDEO teams deliver design strategies for for-profit clients in banking, consumer electronics, connected healthcare, higher education, car care, and the food industry.
Before joining IDEO, Julia designed digital experiences and consumer electronics for Philips and Nokia, and healthcare systems in Brazil. She holds a B.A. in Communications and an M.Sc. in Engineering from University of São Paulo, and a Professional Doctorate in User-System Interaction from Eindhoven University of Technology.
