Fabio Sergio is the Chief Design Officer of Fjord Europe, the design and innovation unit of Accenture Interactive. At Fjord he helps to push the boundaries of what design can do for business and society, bringing over 20 years of design leadership experience across a wide spectrum of industries and sectors.
Throughout his career, Fabio has worked with global market leaders such as LGE, HP, Vodafone, Swisscom, Whirlpool, General Electric, Huawei, BBC, Novartis, Sanofi, Roche, Unicef, WHO, The Red Cross and WEF, exploring areas where emerging technologies can create new opportunities to advance human potential, and business scenarios can be wrapped around people’s dreams and desires.
Prior to joining Fjord, Fabio was Vice President of design at frog, where he helped shape the firm’s Experience Strategy offering, and was the global head of its Social Impact practice. He is constantly looking for opportunities to challenge what is possible when facing complex, ambiguous challenges, and it’s not just Fjord that benefits from his curiosity, passion and expertise. He serves as a design educator and mentor to graduate and post-graduate students of the Politecnico di Milano, Domus Academy and the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design. Fabio holds a Master's of Architecture Degree from MIP Politecnico di Milano.
In the decades straddling the turn of the millennium, relentless technological innovation created an ever-increasing demand for a human-centered design mindset. We now live in what is considered the Golden Era of Design. However, all Golden Eras contain the seeds of their own destruction, and ours is no exception: it is time to rethink our fundamentals.
Design is not alone in experiencing a radical shift. We are surrounded by a generation of near-intelligent systems that are quickly moving from automating everyday human tasks to collaborating with us. In response to people’s demand for success metrics that enhance our lives and just financial growth, the corporate transformation has started switching focus from digital to purpose.
These and many other changes give us a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to innovate business models, services and products around new definitions of value. We have an equally compelling opportunity to address people as part of much larger ecosystems rather than just putting humans 'at the center' of everything.
Join Fabio’s talk to hear how the key trends shaping our world can help us reconsider not just our role as designers, but also the trajectory of our discipline.
